Safety Flares for Biogas, Biomethane and Syngas
Italy’s leading manufacturers of static and high-temperature flares
LAI Srl manufactures safety flares for the combustion and controlled destruction of biogas, biomethane, syngas and LPG, designed and built entirely in our workshop in Cerreto Guidi, in the province of Florence. Flares are among the flagship products in our range: developed in-house by our technical department, they are the result of years of experience with operating plants and a continuous optimization process informed by operator feedback. Each flare is tested in our workshop before delivery, with checks on the ignition system, safety valves and control panel.
We offer two main types to meet different operational needs. Enclosed static flares are designed for emergency combustion of excess biogas where emissions are not subject to strict regulatory limits. The flame remains contained within the stainless steel combustion chamber, making them suitable for sites with visual or fire-safety restrictions. High-temperature flares are designed to ensure complete combustion at temperatures of up to 1,200 °C, with certified abatement of CO, TOC and residual methane to below European regulatory limits. They are the right solution when exhaust emissions are subject to specific environmental permits, IPPC requirements or plant emissions management plans.
Both types are available in ATEX versions, with hazardous-area classification in accordance with European Directive 2014/34/EU.
LAI’s proprietary ignition system is one of the features that sets us apart from standard market solutions. Thanks to a high-energy pilot burner and a flame detection system with a thermocouple or UV scanner, our flares can ignite and sustain combustion even with low-methane gas—a typical situation at landfill sites nearing the end of their life or in upgrading plants during start-up.
For low-calorific gases such as syngas or biomass gasification gas, we manufacture flares with dual burners, configured to handle mixtures with variable calorific values and fluctuating flow rates. Each flare is supplied complete with an integrated extraction blower, a gas train with certified safety valves, a control panel and an operating manual. All systems are ready for remote control and integration with the plant’s SCADA system, with remote monitoring available for combustion temperatures and operating status.
