For over twenty years, LAI Srl has designed and built turnkey biogas utilization plants, developing tailored solutions to recover energy from biogas and methane as fuels for combined heat and power generation. Our design process always starts with a preliminary technical assessment: the characteristics of the available gas, volumetric flow rate, methane content, presence of contaminants such as H2S and siloxanes, and the site’s electrical and thermal load profile. We use this real-world data to size the components and define the optimal plant configuration.
LAI's production process is fully integrated: from detailed engineering and mechanical construction to electrical automation and pre-delivery testing, everything takes place at our workshop in Cerreto Guidi, in the province of Florence. This enables us to build complex plants combining multiple technologies in a single project managed by one technical partner: a biogas purification system with an H2S scrubber, a cogeneration unit with heat recovery from exhaust gases, an RTO post-combustion unit for emissions abatement, and a centralized automation panel coordinating the operation of all components. Managing the project as a whole eliminates the risk of incompatibility between different suppliers and greatly simplifies commissioning.
We design plants for a range of biogas sources: anaerobic digestion of agricultural biomass and livestock waste, fermentation of organic waste and separately collected organic waste, controlled landfill gas collection, and biomethane upgrading plants for grid injection or use as a fuel. For each application, we size components according to actual process data and run operating simulations to ensure the expected performance even before installation. We build new plants and upgrade existing systems to modernise them, increase capacity or bring them into compliance with emissions regulations.
Every solution is tested and delivered turnkey, complete with an automation control panel featuring a PLC, technical documentation, CE certification and dedicated support during commissioning and operator training. After commissioning, we ensure continuous operation through our full-service maintenance program, with 24/7 availability and rapid-response service nationwide. Our many years of experience with plants of various sizes—from small agricultural installations to large industrial plants with capacities exceeding 1 MWe—enable us to tackle every project with field-proven solutions and a technical team equipped to meet the specific requirements of each application.
