Custom Containerized Plant Solutions: Biogas, Engines and BESS
Containerized, pre-assembled plants to reduce installation time and simplify setup
LAI Srl designs and builds bespoke containerised systems, an increasingly popular solution in the biogas, cogeneration and photovoltaic energy storage sectors. Containerisation involves housing all the main plant components—engine, generator, electrical panel, cooling system, scrubber, flare, thermal oxidiser and related auxiliaries—in one or more pre-assembled ISO standard containers, fully tested at our workshop in Cerreto Guidi (FI). The units are ready for transport to the installation site and commissioning in significantly less time than a conventional plant built on site.
This solution offers several significant advantages over on-site installation.
Pre-assembly in our workshop allows us to fully test the plant's mechanical and electrical systems before shipping, dramatically reducing installation time, on-site installation risks and potential disruption to the customer's production activities. The container itself forms the plant's supporting structure and outer enclosure, eliminating the need to build costly masonry plant rooms. Transport uses standard vehicles, with no need for special transport, and site installation requires only a reinforced concrete foundation and external plant connections—gas and steam pipes, electrical cables and ventilation ducts.
This means faster installation, lower overall installation costs, and the flexibility to relocate the plant to another site if production requirements change over time.
LAI containerised systems are custom-designed to suit plant size and the components to be housed. We use 10-, 20- or 40-foot ISO containers, or non-standard structures for higher-capacity plants requiring more space.
The interior is fitted with metal support structures, cable trays, emergency LED lighting, a forced ventilation system for managing the internal temperature, certified gas detectors and a compliant fire suppression system. For BESS paired with photovoltaic systems, we build custom containers to house string inverters, battery storage systems and grid connection panels, with active temperature control via industrial air conditioning units and an interface for monitoring energy performance. Each containerized unit is delivered turnkey, fully tested and documented, with LAI technical support throughout transport, positioning, connection and commissioning at the customer’s site anywhere in Italy.
